A Thought for Today from Isaiah 40:11…for Moms

He will feed His flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in His arms, holding them close to His heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young (NLT).
He tends His flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in His arms
and carries them close to His heart;
He gently leads those that have young (NIV).
I take comfort in this. As a Christ-following Mom, how could I not? I love my kids, but I can’t be all they need. When I release my grip on them, I give the Lord room to minister to their hearts and souls in ways that I cannot. It can be difficult to say, “Lord, they are Yours…” but no earthly parent can compare. If we want our children to trust our Heavenly Father, we need to trust Him. It is in no way relinquishing our responsibility, but it is acknowledging God’s rights as their Creator, His wisdom to guide them, and His strength to make them to be what He created them to be. Just think—the Creator and Sustainer of the universe chose YOU to guide His precious creation(s) into adulthood and, more importantly, into a right relationship with Him.
As I appreciate God’s special care for those who are weak because they are young, and His ability to love my kids beyond my ability or comprehension, I also appreciate that I serve a God who understands that being a mom isn’t the easiest job in the world. To me, the last part of the verse was like a divine hug this morning. Because I’m tired. The boys are back at school after being out sick, but Nora and I are feeling less than well.
I am neither fleet of foot nor nimble; I am not strong. I’m just a tired mama ewe, trying to walk in such a way that my lambs come to know, love, and follow the Shepherd…
And He understands! God doesn’t say that He will push me or drag me. He won’t whip me to a gallop. He will gently lead me.
I just need to follow and let Him do the rest!
